Can marketing transcend traditional business goals and actually be a force for good? Mastercard CMO Raja Rajamannar shares how purpose-driven initiatives — like “touch cards” for the visually impaired and debit cards that let people choose how their names appear — align profit with purpose and position businesses to create meaningful, positive change. (This conversation was hosted by TED’s Whitney Pennington Rodgers.) (Recorded at TED@BCG on September 12, 2024)

  1. I respect his opinion but coming from a company that has an oligopoly in the credit card market with antitrust investigations paying legal fees to escape trials and facing legitimate criticisms related to its market dominance, fee structures, regulatory challenges, and ethical concerns, I would say take everything he says with a big grain of salt. Marketing for the greater good yeah i don't think the top 500 us companies are all actively offering and marketing solution to real life problems for the sake of the people profit is King for them. They may start with solutions but then the profit wins!!!

  2. OMG @TED, I hope you got a lot of $$$$$ for this corporate word salad. Let's talk about the marketing of the Rolex 2 tone Oyster watch on his wrist that costs about $500 to make but is marketed as a status symbol because he cares so much about using marketing for good.
