There’s also the fact that many troops stationed on Normandy on D-day were prisoners and lesser trained troops causing communication issues since most of the prisoners were from different countries. The Germans didn’t expect an invasion from where the allies landed so they left the lower quality troops to defende the beaches.

  2. Rommel wasn't the best and tended to redo his tactics over and over (which is what led to the british wiping out north africa)he just happened to be somewhat competent compared to his fellow generals.
