I think it was a masterpiece developed over a series of takes that developed from a musical concept that sounded and visualized what the band wanted to portray beyond the confines of this reality to expand perception and consciousness..

realy u tink walrus is a filler??????. your rite bout v wat v heck we getn now, v boys liked 2 suprise themsleves n us as they became super creative after finsihinh with touring n performing. always liked this one, first heard it whn i was 14 when v band had long gone, was fascinated by it sonicaly n n nonsensical lyrics. john had a plan 2 confuse some n it worked.

This was the beginning of progressive rock "the beatles" style …! Amazing song for the time! Shows where they could have gone had they stayed together. You are kind of disrespectful and clueless! But the fact that you had to look up that animal says alot about you anyway!

Boy, do you not know the Beatles if you consider this a "filler" song. And you have to define "crazy" with The Beatles because it can be a fine line between crazy and genius. A lot of braincells went into the creation of this song. The instrumentation including rock and classical is cutting edge and brilliant and still relevant. We can do a whole series on the lyrics which, at the top level are considered gibberish but there is a serious lot of thought that went into the choosing of the "random" words. However, it's use of sampling and splicing in audio clips as part of the song was revolutionary. People don't realize how much of a father this song (and other Beatles songs that use these techniques (*cough* Yellow Submarine **cough**)) is to music like Pink Floyd's later work like Dark Side of the Moon.
This is not their weirdest song, that is "Revaluation 9".
LSD is a hell of a drug! LOL!
I think that that's everybody's theory, when it comes to some songs that are out there. If you haven't yet, you should check out Surfin' Bird by The Trashmen.
