The Beatles wrote over 50 songs for the Magical Mystery Tour album,they through out 40 songs for what we would finally get to hear.John Lennon and Paul McCartney were simply prolific songwriters.

When I was a young kid…10, 11, 12ish. The Abey Road album came out. Rumors were flying that Paul McCartney had died. The rumor grew that on the cover of the Abbey Road the picture on the album cover showed the four Beatles walking across the street and Paul was barefooted because he was dead. The other Beatles were supposed to be the grave digger, preacher and pallbearer. The car to the left had a license plate which had 28 IF. 28 if he was dead. The last rumor said that if you played the Walrus song backward it would say Paul is dead. So, I found the different album and played the Walrus backward so many times I think I ruined the album and the needle on my record player which gave me my first lesson of don't believe everything you hear. Too bad the internet wasn't invented yet.
This song is amazing! One may want to dismiss it on first listen as an unserious novelty, but there is so much fascinating stuff going on with the music, and even the seemingly absurd lyrics, that it becomes more and more astounding on each listen! It never seems to get boring. There's always something new to find. The words are almost purposely meaningless, but are profound in their selection. The sounds of the words, the images they convey, and the rhythm and cadence come together like instrumental poetry with pictures. The video has a similar surrealistic effect, but the music is almost more powerful without it. Listen to this song some more on your own and you will see what I mean.
