  1. I was 10 years old when we moved to Milan, Italy and I learned about AIDS and we had heroin syringes spread around the outside of our play yard at school. I read everything I could by Dr. Fauci and shared with my classmates, my aunts, and my grandmother. I was a strange child but I kept everyone safe and never felt nervous. My aunts and grandmother were terrified my little cousins would fall ill from mosquito bites. They didn’t believe me that that is not how HIV spread. My classmates in Italy were much more receptive. I learned so much in those young years. I’m so grateful for all the people who helped me learn.
