Not surprising at all, especially because of the language: being Italian effectively a colonial language made up to be imposed on the same linguistically varied peoples inhabiting the newborn nation that created it, Esperanto-speaking Rose Island (or Isola delle Rose) was perceived as a cultural and thus political threat to the shaping of an artificial identity that was never meant to exist. Also, Esperanto as a language was heavily linked to internationalism and anarchism (even used in early anarcho-feminist pamphlets) so it must have looked even more menacing to a government busy erasing ethic differences in the name of a common flag.
What a shame for Italy 😟
There was also an actual recognized territory which tried to use Esperanto as a selling point for itself, Neutral Moresnet
I’m glad the Italians had lives the could ruin in the Mediterranean before they set their sights on immigrants 😂😂😂
That thing is not 400 square feet.
The Italian government will literally blow up a guy's whole life just to get him to pay taxes.
There was actually another one between Belgium and Germany
JUSTICE FOR ROSE ISLAND
Modern (non-liturgical) Hebrew?
Don't forget Neutral Moresnet!
