This ISN'T a designated driver song. This is a song about BEING ALL ALONE in life with NOBODY there for you. This song touches on making the girl REALISE that that is a very bad position to be in. He is pointing out different times when she WILL need somebody & who will be there – (NOBODY!) – all the way to very bad situations that a person can end up with in life & then – even more so – WHO will be there for you? WHO do you have in life to care for you, support you, be there when things go bad (as they always do at some points in EVERYONE'S life.) It is a song to make you think – & feel.
Enjoy the rabbit hole. Jealous. Would love to re-experience listening to The Cars for the first time.
How can people hate on reaction channels. You give us a chance to relive the discovery of music that we discovered years and sometimes decades ago.
Keep it up please! You help make the old new again….
The video was directed by Oscar winning actor Timothy Hutton. Benjamin Orr was a great vocalist. Everybody else here filled in the other blanks on this song….so I won't repeat what they already contributed…other than they were a great band.
I met Rick and his wife one evening leaving a Burger King in the early 90's, he was a super nice guy taking the time to talk while on a trip with his family. Rick is the one with the dark hair and his wife is the model in the video just incase you didn't know.
As stated mental health and drug addiction
1983 I think……….
They were called 1927. I was fortunate enough to see them live.
