THE HISTORY OF CALIFORNIA – in 13 Minutes

The first known European to reach the gorgeous coasts of California was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542. Cabrillo’s expedition had been launched from modern-day Mexico, known then as the Viceroyalty of New Spain, and ended up in San Diego Bay. The expedition was rather fruitless, however, as Cabrillo failed to discover anything that he viewed as worth the trouble for Spain to colonize. He left, and California remained untouched by European hands. Occasional ships, such as those from the Spanish East Indies traders would at times touch down on California’s coasts, but the idea of colonizing the territory still remained unconsidered. Even when English explorer Francis Drake plundered his way into Oregon and California, claiming the lands for his homeland, no real settlement of any sort was actually set up.

  1. You didn’t explain that California and also Nevada Arizona New Mexico, Utah, Texas Oregon were part of Mexico and stolen to Mexico by USA. The far west movies are fake. When USA settlers went there there were already cities and many other infrastructures like hospitals, judicial system agricultural, industrial, etc. Spain created many universities in America centuries ahead of east English colonies.

  2. This is prob the one of the most accurate history of Alta California. The BS of the map in beginning of Mexico including Alta California and Texas Republic are wrong. The Great Planes Nation Comanche nation owned most of that land in the Nueva Espana claim as their territory but that was a lie, they cant be stripped of territory they never had! Reason Spain ran away, for 300 years Comanche was never conquered and just got stronger. Also, its like saying Cuba PuertoRico and Philippines are one entity, they are their own viceroy different entity under commonwealth of Nueva Espana. The common viceroy of Nueva Espana also have other viceroys, viceroy Alta California and viceroy of the Tejanos that they later called Texas Republic actually became their own country. The BS of getting independence of different viceroys into one is like saying Cuba PuertoRico and Philippines are one. All of these Viceroys islands and viceroy of Las Floridas, Alta California, Tejanos, Cuba, Philippines, Puerto Rico are all under Nueva Espana with their different governors different entity. Alta California decided for them selves not to go to war agains US and they decided to join US and the Tejanos decided to have their own country but later can not defend it from Comanches and future threat from Mexico who cant even send any troops to fight the Comanches and later US Mexico war. Those Tejanos Texas Republic decided for them selves. Similarly, Cuba decided they dont want to be with US and just allow US to have a base in Guantanamo. Puerto Rico decided to stay US commonwealth. Philippines decided independence. The central America states decided their own independence after Nueva Espana dissolved.
