I've always found Vald the Impaler to be one of the most interesting figures. I admit, I looked into the truth of him because I loved vampire movies when I was young but the more I learned about him, the more interesting he got. Almost a real life monster but at the same time a hero too. But the story of how he was treated when he was a hostage, with brutal punishments, I think set him up to be the man he became. The Ottoman's made their own worst enemy. I don't know if he was truly the absolute monster people wrote him to be or if he was just a hard, cold and calculating man who did what was necessary. But I will say one thing. Vlad Dracul III was a man of conviction! (And I wish the history channel would make TV show about him!)
