  1. Am an Acholi , a Luo from Uganda and am proud of my tribe . I would like to correct on the Luo babito story
    The story goes :
An Acholi chief , in the present day Olwiyo / Anaka , gave birth to twins ( Opio and Ocen ). And when the chief passed away , Opio was destined to rule or serve after his father and for a period of time Opio ruled and served over his people but his twin brother Ocen was jealous and tired of being in his brother's shadow therefore he called for a clan meeting and argued that he too deserves his right to rule as he was also born at the same time as Opio and mere seconds can't dictate that he doesn't have the claim to rule ……..chaos erupted in the meeting, some agreeing with Ocen and others siding with Opio , this caused division in the clan , they couldn't come to agreement so the meeting had to be stopped but after a few days on one fateful evening word got out that to Opio via his female servants that Ocen was planning to assassinate him that very evening, since Opio had very little time to organize a defence he had to escape from his home with most of his supporters and I believe thats why the town is called Olwiyo( meaning escaped). And indeed Ocen was planning to kill Opio and the rest of his supporters. On the night Opio escaped he sought refuge and waited for his supporters under a tree …..( The place is named " Te'bito" and you can visit the site in Uganda check on Google maps ) . From there we get the name Luo babito…..( The word "babito" is a Luo word that generates from the sentence " wa bito " meaning we almost died in short ) And that's how Opio's group got its name Luo babito

The Luo- Babito is still a long story….as it blends and melts into the Bunyoro-kitara
Story telling and songs are form of keeping history among the Luo's
Ancient history, traditions are preserved through storytelling and songs .
    Thanks for the video
