  1. It’s hard to think there are so many controversies related to the words and events written in the Scriptures. If one believes that Joseph Smith is a prophet and he wrote the words in the Doctrine and Covenant through revelation, who are we to question them? How can we believe that he is a prophet if we don’t believe the words that he has written? A young woman got up in a fast and testimony meeting the other day, and said “I don’t really like Joseph Smith I don’t think he was a good person, but I believe the church is true.” I found that quite astounding. Without Joseph Smith, the book of Mormon would not exist, we would have nothing to believe in. Of course, Jesus Christ could’ve chosen another prophet, but then another person would not be able to fulfill all the prophecies that came before regarding Joseph Smith. Of course, it’s fun to study history and to hear and see, and know all the things that were occurring during Joseph Smith’s time, but to question Joseph Smith himself, and to think somehow he should’ve been perfect causes confusion and difficulty for some. I love Joseph Smith. I think he was amazing and I’m so thankful for the things that he did, for his imperfections that were addressed by Jesus Christ and who then instructed him to repent and change. The lessons Joseph Smith learned apply to all of us; the ability to be imperfect, yet to still be able to repent, and please Heavenly Father and return to Him because of Jesus Christ’s actions and words, some of which were made known to us through Joseph Smith.
