Who wants to eat a giant Thai fried garlic fish?

Utumporn Som Tam (ส้มตำอุทุมพร https://maps.app.goo.gl/T7gZ4tf3j32PdieT8) is a Thai street food stall in Bangkok, Thailand that’s famous for Isaan food, especially a giant fried garlic fish. And it’s huge!

She batters them in a clumpy flour mixture, with heads of garlic and peels, then deep fries every fish until crispy and juicy in the center.

Here’s everything I ordered:

Som Tam Pla Raa (ส้มตำปลาร้า) – green papaya salad, fermented fish sauce
Soup Nor Mai (ซุบหน่อไม้) – Bamboo shoot salad
Gai Tod (ไก่ทอด) – Fried chicken
Pla Tod (ปลาทอด) – Fried fish, mountain of garlic and peanuts
Nam Tok (น้ำตก) – Grilled pork salad
Total price – 480 THB ($14.86) for everything

  1. That fish looks amazing!!!! I've had fish at stalls like the one you went to when I visited Thailand. It is some of the best fish I've had. When I return to Thailand, I will look for garlic encrusted fish. What a grand combination!!!!
