Here we go travelling back in time to listen to some of the great music from the 60s. I had never heard of The Mama’s and The Papa’s before today. I feel as though California Dreamin’ has a very mysterious sound to it. I have no idea why. To be honest I don’t even know what genre of music California Dreamin’ would fall under I just feel like you guys would enjoy this song.

I bought some Mamas & Papas male outfits. All the sleeves were brown and the tie was grey.
I was 12 in 1970, and when I was old enough to be aware of music and history, I wish I’d been born 10 years earlier so I could be in my teens and 20s in the 60s and 70s.
Harmony that makes the hair on your arms stand up!
There are so many excellent singers from this era . But each were unique . There are none that rival the others , in their unique sounds , and none that rival The Mamas and The Papas .
I live in California and we all know this song and love to dream. Those harmonies. Wow.
I love the M&Ps harmonies! They are some of the best. I can sing along with so many of their songs and enjoyed them when I was a teen!
This is a song about regret. No matter how deep the singer’s longing for a change is, the preacher sees right through him and knows that he’s going to stay because there’s a girl in the cold climate, and he can’t bear to leave her or let her down.
However, you don’t know if that’s because he loves the girl or no longer loves her but only feels duty bound to stay, which would be deeply sad. But the lyrics don’t tell you why, so you are left in limbo, not quite knowing what to think.
The tone of the song is melancholy and regretful. That’s where your chills are coming from.
