I have been asked a lot to take a listen to The Carpenters and it is something I have been meaning to do for a while now. I have got to say, these guy have surprised me the most. I went into this reaction expecting Classic Rock and heard a whole different sound. Although I was shocked, I still heard some of the most fascinating piece of music I have heard. The Carpenters are definitely s band I am going to have to keep an eye on. Their song Superstar felt very mellow and melancholic. I’m am looking forward to hearing more from The Carpenters and hopefully music just as interesting as this one.
Here is my reaction to hearing The Carpenters – Superstar for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

  1. MollyBoy, you now owe it to your subscribers, future subscribers and to yourself to do another reaction video to The Carpenters and I recommend you do it post haste in light of your commentary being more about your fear of your viewing audience than praising the greatest female vocals in history. 😉 Keep up the good work and congrats on your new merch. All the best of luck to you.

  2. Now I am doing a REACTION to you, young man. You clearly have some musical intuition going on. You say some very correct things like "there is a lot going on here" and "complexity" that simply isn't present in music, except on rare occasion past the 1990s. I can see you can keep time by the way you bob your head in tempo, which indicates you play some instrument-my guess is bass. The instrumentation in this song includes, oboe on the solo lines in the intro, then taken over by French Horns in tight harmony. There are strings playing "pads" which were common in this era. Also a harp. The tinkle you picked up on is a piano. We also have the standard 4 pc rhythm section and some brass- trumpet(s), trombone, and sax. The music of the 70s was so highly evolved and complex with unusual chord progressions compared to earlier decades it is a stand-out as the pinnacle of music achievement. Since the 70s, it has been a slow and progressive "dumbing down" of music, IMO. What is called music today isn't a shadow of what it once was. Karen Carpenter had a one in a trillion gift. Please keep investigating the 70s music and broaden your horizons. Your instincts are great!

  3. Darlin, you are a true music freak. I've watched you fall apart to Creep, Dolly Parton, The Eurithmics, Blondie, Rocky Mountain High, Kid Rock, The Temptations, Rap, Heavy Metal, and even George Fucking Jones who I made fun of profusely when I was young. Somehow I learned to not laugh at him and appreciate him. I live for music and you are far ahead of me for your age. Please continue to enjoy your life in music.
