As someone who has worked at 4 different restaurants, I don't condone tampering with food like spitting in it etc. People are a**holes. But that is a disgusting practice that should not be normalized. If somebody upset me or openly disrespected my coworker I would tell them to get a refund (if they haven't received their food already) and gtfo. And if they have a problem with that they can meet me outside.
Don't tolerate disrespect but confront your problems directly ffs. If you start spitting in food you'll end up doing it to anybody who mildly bothers you. Sometimes people can seem rude or aggressive but you don't know what's going on in their life. Does that justify disrespecting service staff? Of course not. But spitting in the food they paid for? Come on. Grow up.

I once had lunch at a restaurant with my then boss. I always thought he was a little odd. He was the pretentious type that knew everything. He ended up being so rude to the waitstaff that I didnβt dare eat my own food. π
