  1. Norman Dike in reality was a competent leader who got two bronze stars for heroism. They dramatized it when in fact Dike was severely wounded and in shock not incompetent. He didn't die despite them showing him being killed by a German antitank shell.

  2. @ the German guy. Yes, Lieutenant Ronald Speirs did run through enemy lines in the town of Foy, Belgium, an action depicted in the miniseries Band of Brothers. During the Battle for Foy in January 1945, Speirs ran through the German-occupied town to relay orders to another platoon that lacked radio communication, and then he ran back through the town to his own lines. This act of extreme bravery, which involved sprinting across open fields and through the town under fire, secured the victory for Easy Company

  3. When Spiers ran to "I" company, the snow was up to the knees. Hence, they were struggling to make ground and keep up with "E" Company. The real hero of the action at Noville and Foy was Desobry and the 20th US Armored Infantry Division. Read 'A Time for Trumpets'. His division wiped out the 2nd Panzer Division, capturing 142 prisoners. There is a street in Bastogne called Rue du Général Desobry.
