  1. Dike was not a bad commander, he was twice decorated for heroism in Market Garden. What they fail to show is that he was hit in the shoulder in the first moment of the battle and was losing a lot of blood which clouded his judgement.

  2. Norman Dike was a U.S. Army officer in World War II who commanded Easy Company during the Battle of the Bulge, but his portrayal in Band of Brothers as a coward is disputed by historical accounts. While he was relieved of command during the attack on Foy after suffering a panic attack, he was a decorated soldier who earned a Bronze Star for his actions in Holland and another for rescuing wounded men in Bastogne. After the war, he became a lawyer, a CIA agent, and later retired as a lieutenant colonel, living in Switzerland until his death.

  3. You know the thing thats not really talked about is how important battlefield commissions were, to become an officer the traditional way you have to be college educated and go through Officer Candidate School battlefield commissions completely skip that and say you're exceptional at war fighting so now you're an officer. Enlisted and Officers are two completely different career pipelines, Enlisted do the footwork officers tell them how to do it. To put it in perspective there hasnt been a battlefield commission since the vietnam war.
