One of my grandfather's landed on Omaha beach D+2 the second day.He survived the war ,he didn't make it to Germany.he sustained a leg wound from an exploding shell in france.my other grandfather was in the Philippines and on Iwo Jima.but was not in the lead forces.that probly saved his life.
31:30 – "AxShOoOlY GuYs, YoU CaN'T ShOoT Em, It's a wAr cRiMe iF YoU Do"
THis the the third time this guy has said this. IT'S WAR
Wonder what this guy said when Upham shot Steamboat Willie in the final scene.
The Germans had been witing for them since dawn, they knew they were coming just didn't know when they were coming so they had more than enough time to prepare for it, also the shelling before the "landings" was a dead giveaway to what was about to happen.
The greatest generation. 😢
I read a lot about WW2 and about D-Day. I saw this in the theater, the moment I saw the boats coming in I was like.. oh shit! No no no no, don't show me D-day… Oh fuck! I sunk down into my chair and just waited for the hell storm. Halfway through the scene my friends girlfriend had to get up and leave because she was emotional. I was just sitting in my chair sick to my stomach.
just think of all the good men all of our grandfathers that diidnt make it back from all nations,,, mine did,,, he died when i was 3 and im 63 now
This is why the US spends so much on the military now so we don't have to send guys into a grinder like this. Every bit of tech or equipment spares some of this unnecessary sacrifice.
That’s What happened these days in Palestine with civilians
Best war movie ever made. Here is a tid bit of fact for those that may not know, when the movie was released not only did veterans have to step out, but the VA set up a hot line to help with soldiers that were suffering ptsd spike die to this scene.
Freedom has never come at a cost that is "free". One never truly knows how one will react when faced with such adversity, until such adversity is upon them.
