You forgot the part where Israel was machine gunning the lifeboats and also jamming distress calls, both are against the rules of engagement…
Slower flying planes were passing over the ship many hours before the attack, taking photos and clearly they knew it was an American ship…why would the JOOs send 30 sortie mission to sink an old soon to be scrapped Egyptian horse ship that never fired back? Why send torpedo boats and machine gun the crew and lifeboats?

Politics is a bloodsport.
Multiple planes flew over it and didn’t fire it. When they were told to fire at the USS liberty, one of them refused because it was so obvious to them it was an American boat. They attacked for over 2 hours and paid less than 10% of the damages.
