Vacuum electron tubes are still mass produced. But those are much different and used either in microwave ovens (magnetron) or X-ray machines.
But what is a rectifier tube other than a tube that rectifies the sound???
My digital circuits professor was this fantastic old English man. He would tell us stories of being a tech servicing remote radio stations in Scotland. They would hang up their gear in the vacuum tube rooms to dry and warm them before braving Scottish winters.
