Thermoworks has excellent equipment. I use their temperature tester pen. It is very well made and lasts for years
I've cooked my turkey breast down for the first hour and a half, when the thigh is close to done, flip it over, inject the dripping into the breast, let it brown and enjoy
If you can buy a turkey for $8… it would be worth serving it more than just at Thanksgiving!!! 😮 That’s the cheapest meat you can buy.
Maybe cook the breast separately from the thighs. So they reach their optimum temperature separately.
In light of the KFC recipe being outed earlier this year by the nephew, or whoever he is, of the colonel, it'd be a fun idea to have a bird seasoned with those ingredients, to sort-of compete with the Popeye's turkey… 😀
Never in my life have I nor would I spend $60 on a turkey. I love Popeyes chicken, but I'm not spending that kind of money.
Hi Emmy! Our family switched from whole roasting to spatchcocking/butterflying the turkey, and ever since we’ve gotten a very even cook throughout! It widens the surface area which helps the dark meat and white meat cook at nearly the same rate, resulting in a moister turkey! Give it a try this year, it DRASTICALLY reduces the cook time too. I think you’ll love it!
Next time do a spatchcock on your homemade bird and take the breast out sooner.
I wouldn't eat the popeyes turkey if they paid ME the $60. There's half a gram of sodium per serving (which is 100 calories). I'm not a sodium freak but that is just outrageous.
If I have to wait to thaw it and then still cook it, may as well start from raw.
