    The ottoman empire didn't exist at the time as an empire, but as a state ruled by secularist militarist nationalist party. And their childish foolishness and lack of the intellect or the understanding of the empire's dynamics, which the ottoman sultan knew very well but was denied action, led to the empire going with the germans. And then they proceeded to do unfavorable things to the arabs and armenians, further weakening the unity of the empire, again much to the sultan's disappointment.
    In short, the reason why the ottomans fell is because of the secularist militarist nationalist party, not the religious monarchist pan-islamic order of the dynasty.

  2. Apparently not. Not weak enough to kill their own citizens, get away with it, and establish a new republic under their terms. True weakness is losing majority of your lands and unable to do anything about it such as the Austria-Hungarian empire. The Ottoman Empire still retained a good chunk of their territory despite being on the losing side of history.
