It was not the decision of the Ottoman Empire(i.e caliph and the Muslims) it was the decision of the young Turks driven pseudo Ottoman Empire, in which the caliph was powerless.

the ottomans were pretty 50/50 split on joining or not but if they didnt join the war they would have probably become a superpower, think about it, this is right before when all of that oil in the middle east could be utilized, and the Ottomans had 100% control over all of it
