After France’s defeat in 1871 to Prussia, the rest of the German Confederation and later the German Empire, it lost the region of Alsace-Lorraine and a bunch of money. But given how decisive the Prussian victory was, why didn’t it demand more territory from the French? To find out watch this short and simple animated history documentary.

Bismarck: carefully lays the groundwork for war with a rival power, ensures neutral powers won't interfere even though he's probably justified in overthrowing the dictator Napoleon iii, and ends the war after achieving realistic, limited objectives stated at the beginning of the war
1914 Germany: Nah, they won't mind if we invade and massacre Belgium hurr durrrrrr
They should have released Burgundy.
They should gave A-L back when France paid the reparations.
The Germans in 1871 didn't completely annex the regions of Alsace and Lorraine. Though almost all of Alsace was annexed, a relatively small area in the southwest of the region remained French territory. Only the northeastern quarter of Lorraine was annexed by Germany; the other three-quarters of the region continued to be a part of France.
I never realized how big land wise Prussia got before it unified into Germany, it started out so small and split into two different locations
Several reasons. Those are only historically German regions. And this way it was possible to keep England out from the conflict.
We didnt annex it, we took it back
No word about the letter the new German Emperor sent to Eugénie of France, wife of Napoleon III.
This letter speak about the annexation of Alsace-Moselle not being because of the German speaking part but for the only purpose to make the French army being more far of the Rhine.
In 1918, Clémenceau was betrayed by the anglosphere because they were unwilling to see France take back Alsace-Moselle, so he showed this letter and naturally, the anglo's backed down.
Ah yes, the classic politician long dead made choices witch definently wont come back to bite anyone in the ass.
they only took what was theirs to beginn with. Give elsass back fench fags
