I'm Japanese, and i think some people take it at face value, which makes me sad😢 The defamation law doesNOT mean that you can be sued just for a bad review like "the food isn't delicious". if some restaurant does so, It's a bad restaurant. First of all, the law can be applied for the comments talking about specific and objective things, so subjective reviews are out of range. From my experience as Japanese, getting sued for bad comments in japan is NOT common. Definitely you have the right of free speech. Don't wory when you review. And about picky reviewers, i think It's because of the difference of culture. Japanse people of course have their own standards. I'm proud of good service and delicious food of my country and many Japanese people think of it as usual. This means even 3-4 review, it must provide good services.
I'm not a politician or lawer, so please don't tell me about academic things. I'm sorry if i misunderstand but I'm just sad to see some people in comments who understand japan in a way that i didn't expect, and hate japan.
You know a restaurant is popular with or exclusively visited by foreigners if it has a 4+ average rating. Average Japanese review be like "This food was the best I ever had. Service was perfect. Nice atmosphere. 3 stars."
How are you supposed to know what's good in Japan if people can't be honest about food reviews without fear of getting sued? How can you trust the food ratings in Japan and find restaurants that are good?
Why shouldn’t you leave a 5 star review?
Japan is amazing and awesome ❤
Hmmm, maybe I should have said: "(Fowl) nuggets and duck fat" because fowl means Bird… Bird…

I’ve been to this restaurant lol😂 it sooooo good but 3,7 stars I think I remember 🙂 please pin😅
Rating inflation is a huge pain. It means that 4.5 stars is bare minimum. Really bad stuff.
